Japan Weekly Sales (April 10th – April 16th)

It’s the end of the week! You know what that means? Japanese Sales Day! Yay! Anyway, Media-Create has its hardware and software sales data up for the last week, and it should provide a good idea of how important Japan is to the handheld race. Yesterday, we reported the American Monthly Sales. Today, we have the Japanese Weekly Sales. We have software as well as hardware.

  10. PS2 Pro Yakyuu Spirits 3 – 20,604 [89,142]

DS Lite: 140,969 [827,737]

DS: 37,204 [6,427,346]
PS2: 27,549 [22,211,371]
PSP: 26,340 [3,292,682]
GBA SP: 6,372 [15,598,237]
GBM: 3,676 [473,684]
X360: 1,926 [107,556]
GCN: 1,080 [4,097,277]
GBA: 46 [???]
XBX: 30 [474,364]

The DS Lite + DS sold about 178,000 units in one week. That’s less than 10,000 away from how much the DS and PSP sell in an entire MONTH in the USA. However, the console sales in Japan are much less than the ones in the United States. Japan is becoming the biggest piece of meat when it comes to handhelds and the USA reigns supreme when it comes to console marketshare.

There is really nothing out of the ordinary in the charts. The PS2 has outsold the PSP for the first time in a while and the Xbox 360 is ahead of the GameCube for the third week in a row. The highest ranked PSP game is in 11th place, Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu Portable, and the highest rated Xbox 360 game, Professional Baseball Spirits 3, is in 42nd . I’m willing to bet that the highest one is either Rumble Roses or Dead or Alive. Because putting a new picture of the best-selling hardware and software (DS Lite + Brain Training) gets boring after a while, today we have a picture to taunt Xbox 360 owners who don’t have their systems yet! Look at all the pretty 360s in Japan! Don’t worry guys, you should be getting your 360 soon.
