Jeff Anderson on LotRO’s destiny points and kinships

Kinship of adventurers - Image 1Over at the WarCry Network, Jeff Anderson‘s taken the time to answer some important questions regarding Lord of the Rings Online. In addition to reaffirming their pricing options, he also took the time to discuss the game’s destiny points, which you can use to enchance your monster and character accordingly, as well as LotRO‘s guild concept, known as kinships.

First off, he takes some time to explain destiny points. Destiny points are acquired as a whole across all your characters and can be redeemed through any one of them for enhancements or temporary buffs.

Unlike heroes, monsters use this primarily for their advancement (you don’t always expect quests as an Uruk-hai, we expect), and are acquired by completing objectives or killing heroes:

These points can then be spent, as a currency, on all kinds of upgrades for your monster. For example, your Uruk Warleader can use Destiny Points to buy more armour, new skills, powerful Traits, and even appearance improvements such as warpaint. In addition to showing your Monster’s progress with appearance and equipment, your portrait’s circle on the Vitals bar will also change.

On the other end of the spectrum, heroes can use the points for temporary buffs, though what buffs they are and how long they last were yet to be explained.

One other thing that was detailed was the kinship system, in which the equivalent of a guild can change its leadership at any time. According to Anderson, the kinship itself works much like the guild system in other games, but they do expect some race-based and class-based wrinkles to add some spice.

In the meantime, have a look at the interview with Jeff Anderson, and let us know if you’d be willing to pay 200 bucks for a lifetime of play.
