Kobayashi: “Dante with The Devil Bringer is just simply not Dante”

Nero - Devil May Cry 4 - Image 1Speaking to gaming news blog Riottt, Hiroyuki Kobayashi, Producer of Capcom‘s Devil May Cry 4, revealed that Nero‘s Devil Bringer was implemented in Devil May Cry 4 as a means for developers to spice the gameplay up. Kobayashi reasons that they felt that they “reached the limit of what you can do with swords and gun action games” So a third action, the Devil Bringer, was there to change things up and make something new.

As to the reason’s Why Dante doesn’t get the Devil Bringer or something similar, Kobayashi had this to say:

Actually, I wasnÂ’t aware of it until recently, but tests were done with Dante using The Devil Bringer, but when the team actually tried it, they realized that Dante with The Devil Bringer is just simply not Dante.

It was also revealed that Dante will appear in the game as one of Nero‘s enemies, but then will eventually become a playable character. Since they intend that this fourth installment be a new start for the series, they feel that placing Dante as a support character instead of the main character is nice means of using him and keeping things fresh.

When asked why Ugly people can’t be heroes, Hiroyuki Kobayashi jokingly points out that even Kratos has some degree of good looks to him. Seriously though, he clarifies that since Devil May Cry is a “stylish” game they try to make the main characters as “cool” as possible.

Finally, for those who are eager to make comparisons between the different console versions of the game (PS3 and Xbox 360) Kobayashi is already warning that there are some output differences in each console.

Kobayashi says that “brightness and color output varies between the PS3 and the Xbox 360.” Worry not though, as he does reassure that the team is planning on making sure that the output on either console is as similar as possible.
