Learn to bowl and lose weight with the Wii

Wii Sports- Bowling - Image 1The New York Times reports several accounts of casual gamers who have had extraordinary experiences with the Nintendo Wii. Playing the bowling game on Wii Sports has allegedly raised real bowling scores and even led to weight loss.

Diana Neary, a self-progressed bad bowler, recently racked up some serious points and hit a score of 102 after a perennial average hovering in the 60’s. She says it’s the first time in a long while that she’s back in the alley and she credits the improvement to the realistic Wii controls. She says “For the Wii bowling, I would stand a little bit to the right, get down really low and twist my hand.”

Another user says he keeps the level of play high with “full range of motion” commands that keep him active and the game exciting when playing with friends. He says it’s easy to cheat with something less, so they make sure everyone moves his joints and has fun. After six weeks of play, he claims to have lost nine pounds.

Academic studies based on these testimonies are yet to be conducted, but we think it’s wonderful that the controller innovation is leading to so much more than gaming bliss.

Thanks to Mickey for the heads-up.
