LotR Online Dev Journals: PvP In Focus

Lord of the Rings Online

A lot of people nearly flipped their wigs when it was announced that Lord of the Rings Online would have a PvP system in place. Grisly scenes such as a slaughter of hobbits at Bag End littered the minds of hardcore fans of the LotR series, and we’re willing to bet that not a few fans had started heated discussions and debates on the subject.

To quell all the raging fires and answer the roiling questions, Nik Davidson, Lead Game Systems Designer for LotR Online, recently posted an entry in the LotR Online Developer Journals regarding how PvP will be implemented in the game. Davidson also sheds some much-needed light on the enigmatic term “monster play.” This information comes at a very good time, with LotR Online entering Beta phase.

Now, after reading the journal entry, we must admit, it is a very interesting system. It gets players to experience both sides of the war using essentially the same character, something that is not too often experienced in other current MMORPGS. The reward system for monster play is rather intriguing, too, although the details on that are still scarce.
