After being deluged with requests from his readers for the Achievements Unlocked tone, he’s giving it to them, straight from the Source, no background noise or whatever to distort the signal. No, really, he is. (So as long as it’s for a personal, non-commercial use only, he warns)
It is the tone Gamerscore addicts hear when their long and winding efforts to unlock Achievements have been fulfilled. It is the anthem of and salute to the self-gratification, the status-craving, the “I’m king of the world!” feeling that is at the heart of the entire Gamerscore/Achievement addiction. That is, if the Score is your thing.
Other than that, for its low audible profile, it makes a great discreet message alert tone (which is the tone’s purpose in Xbox Live, anyway: “You’ve got an Achievement”).
