Make Way for the PEnGUIn Toolkit 1.11a

PEnGUInDev La’fear just made updates to his nifty homebrew app, the PEnGUIn Toolkit. What does it do? Basically, it encodes your pmp or pmp_avc files on Mac. According to the dev, itÂ’s an easy, small software. And there are two parts PEnGUIn(Encoder) and PEnGUIn(Muxer) included.

La’fear adds that PEnGUIn(Encoder) is a frontend program for mplayer, mencoder and x264(modified for compatible with pmp_avc_muxer). It means that you still need to download these binaries for Mac separately. If you’re using a Mac, you can easily fetch these required packages (mplayer, mencoder, x264) using DarwinPorts. Once installed youÂ’d execute something similar to “port -v install <package name>.”

Here are more of the dev’s notes for you to check out:

There are four buttons in the PEnGUIn(Encoder). It can produce four kinds of media materials, y4m, h264, Divx and mp3.

  • The steps for making PMP_AVC movies:
  • Step 1.
    Source.mov –> out.y4m –> out.264
  • Step 2.
    Source.mov –> out.mp3
  • Step 3.
    out.264 + out.mp3 –> PEnGUIn(Muxer) –> AVC_MUXER –> Output.pmp

    NOTE:
    1. The *.y4m file is ten times larger than DVD-Video, so make sure you have enough space in your disk drive.
    2. Be careful: it takes a lot of time encoding an H264 movie.

In this particular version, users could expect improved picture quality, as well as improved compatibility with PMP_MOD_AVC Player in large movie files.

So who says all the Microsoft slash PSP users have all the fun? Click the download link below to check out this homebrew app now.
