According to the report, Dan Wooley was one of the hundreds of thousands who found themselves under the rubble after the quake hit Haiti. He knew he needed to stay alive, and he did just that with the help of his iPhone, believe it or not.
Dan used the focusing light of his DSLRcamera to survey his surroundings so he can best determine where would be safest for him, and also took pictures of the wreckage. What sealed the deal for him, however, was the first aid app he downloaded from the AppStore.
Thanks to this, “he knew how to fashion a bandage and tourniquet for his leg and stop the bleeding from his head wound. The app also warned him not to fall asleep if he felt he was going into shock, so he set his cell phone’s alarm clock to go off every 20 minutes.”
Dan would be rescued from his location, in an elevator shaft where he took shelter, some 65 hours later.
