Master Kojima Reveals New Details on MGS4 Snake’s Mission

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will not feature Raiden as a playable character. This was disclosed by director Hideo Kojima himself but added he will “play an active role in the story…” The reason behind Raiden’s non-playable role will be revealed through the course of MGS4‘s plot. As if you needed another reason to  build up your MGS4 anticipation.

Kojima also threw a couple of bones for the benefit of rabid MGS4 fans regarding the game’s setting. MGS4 is set five to 10 years in the future, a time “all of the weapons and war zones are controlled by nanotechnology. And wars have become an industry dominated by “private military companies.” Liquid Snake returns as commander of one of these companies, Outer Heaven, wielding “military strength equivalent to the rest of the world’s combined power.” Meanwhile, the UN sends Solid Snake to the Middle East to foil Liquid’s plans.

“Snake’s vigor – his existence – has started to wither,” relates Kojima. “His face has aged a lot, but he’s actually much younger than he seems. His body suffers from accelerated aging because he was born from the genetic engineering project, Les Enfants Terribles.”
If that’s just the basic storyline think what the actual game would be like!

As for the other Metal Gear alumni, Naomi Hunter will be back after escaping from her Metal Gear Solid captors. Campbell, too,  returns “more vigorous than Snake.”  PSone Metal Gear Solid major star, Meryl Silverburgh, will resurface as commanding officer and leader of FOXHOUND.

Will MGS4 be the finale of Snake’s adventures? “I had actually intended to complete the series with MGS3,” Kojima explains. “I decided to make MGS4 because so many mysteries still remained, and I couldn’t ignore all the people who had requested a new game.” If enough people ask for MGS5, which is a very likely scenario even at this point when MGS4 has not even be been released, hopefully the master will be as accomodating.
