Memory swap: Datel’s MAX Drive 160 plug-and-play storage device

The Codejunkies revealed Datel‘s latest lineup of video game accessories for the PS3, and one device that caught our eye was the Datel MAX Drive 160. It is a plug-and-play removable 160GB HDD for the PS3, selling for US$ 170.00 @ Codejunkies.

(Yeah, we were slow to getting wind of this, but hey, who can say “no” to extra gigabytes?)

Kinda like the file transfer kit for the 360 (kinda), the product sheet claims that it’s as simple to use as any other removable HDD: plug, drag-and-drop (from the PC) or access from the PS3. Our take is that it would be most useful for file management purposes, being able to archive save files, media files like movies, pics,  and music, that sort of stuff.

It can’t be used to run actual downloaded games, but the way we see it, when you move all the fluff to the removable HDD, that leaves a lot of space for the really important stuff on the PS3 HDD (especially if it’s only 20GB). And between this and PS3Portal, you’ve got a near-total PS3 file management system in place.
