Xbox 360 Elite - Image 1We’ve all heard about the rumors that Microsoft‘s Bill Gates will introduce what is currently dubbed as the Xbox 360 Ultimate, a beefed-up Xbox 360 supposed to be powered with built-in Wi-Fi, a hefty 320GB hard drive, and an integrated HD DVD drive, among other things. The speculation sounds interesting, but Microsoft just flat-out denies the rumors of any Xbox 360 SKU getting a built-in HD DVD drive.

A Microsoft spokesman commented to GameSpot that they don’t have any plans of integrating an HD-DVD player into the Xbox 360 ever since the console’s launch, and that they certainly aren’t changing their minds at this point. The spokesman continued:

We feel that offering the drive externally is the best way to give consumers the ultimate choice to create their own high-definition experiences.

Well, there you have it, but since it’s a trend within the gaming industry to deny rumors until they get officially announced, we’ll just have to wait and see if this particular rumor will just turn out to be true.
