Microsoft‘s decision to include a free pass to the Beta test of Halo 3 in the sandbox game Crackdown has sparked some complaints as of late. The sentiment on most forums is that Microsoft is forcing people to buy a US$ 60 game they may not have purchased if the Halo 3 pass wasn’t included.
A report from Reuters informs that Microsoft’s director of marketing Craig Davison has defended their strategy by saying that the bottom line is that Crackdown is a game that stands on its own. Microsoft claims that over 600,000 people downloaded the free demo of Crackdown over XBL in just a couple of weeks, and this demonstrates that Crackdown as a game is worth the US$ 60.
Anyhow, the big fuss is over which game is pushing which – is Halo 3 pushing Crackdown or is Crackdown hyping Halo 3? In defense of Crackdown Microsoft seems to have sided with the later. What do you guys think?
