Microsoft Games Division in deep doo-doo?

Is Microsoft really in Deep Doo Doo? - Image 1Doo-doo – that’s what everyone’s four year-old cousin would call it. It’s basically a childish euphemism for excrement or for a bad, bad situation.

SeekingValue.com’s Nick Germain notes that while Sony is getting a whole lot of bad press for all of their problems with the PlayStation 3, he wonders why the press has been very kind to Microsoft. This kindness has been forthcoming despite the fact that, when you look at their expenditures, it seems Microsoft’s Home and Entertainment Division is in deep doo-doo.

Germain notes something we all know, Microsoft’s problems when it comes to selling the Xbox 360 in Japan, and then he combines this with reported figures like the US$ 21 Billion that Microsoft has invested in in the Home & Entertainment Division, and the US$ 5.4 Billion of operating losses (and rising) that Microsoft has seen in the last FIVE years, and he sees whole lot of trouble.

No wonder folks are charging 62 dollars for fish over at XBLA.

Germain notes that he believes that even a shrewd microtransaction strategy, even one spearheaded by Halo, is enough to recoup the losses that Microsoft is experiencing.

Mistwalker and other Japanese developers to the rescue for Xbox 360 in Japan? The Xbox 360 fans here at QJ certainly hope so. All the while, however, the PlayStation 3 folks feel vindicated.
