BAFTA Fellowship Awardee and Nintendo big boss Shigeru Miyamoto has conceded that 2009 was not what they would consider to be a successful year for Nintendo, this despite being a consistent topnotcher in monthly hardware sales charts.

In an interview with magazine The Economist, Miyamoto expressed dismay over the lack of fun  products released from their development labs the past year. “The fact that in 2009 we were not able to sell more than we did in 2008 was simply that in comparison, we were not able to produce fun-enough products,” he explained.

Furthermore, “There are always ups and downs in this business. As long as we create unique and unprecedented experiences with videogames, there should be nothing to worry about.”

With the impending release of Sony’s and Microsoft’s motion technologies, we wonder if Nintendo’s counterpunch would be. They’ve got to be keeping something up in their sleeves.
