With the release of Samus Aran’s final adventure on the Nintendo Wii all but peeking at us around the corner, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, it’s certainly a very cool (and very cunning) ploy of Nintendo to release three classic titles for the Virtual Console that not only include one of the legendary goddess in armor’s exploits on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, but two others where you set off on your lonesome to combat a grave and terrible threat.

First up is Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master. We’ve covered this before in a recent Virtual Console update, but for the uninitiated, this game is an epic title of revenge sought upon an organized crime syndicate that’s wreaking terror upon a city. You play as Musashi Joe, the sole master of the long-forgotten Oboro Ninjutsu Arts, and you must use each and every skill in Joe’s arsenal to wreak heaven’s justice upon your foes. Shinobi III is yours for a mere pittance of 800 Wii Points.

The next castle the princess is in, so to speak, is Neutopia. An action-roleplaying game, you’ll be hacking and slashing through traps, obstacles, walls, dungeons, plus the occasional and ridiculously-difficult boss monster or two.

Stepping into the shoes of a young, brave lad tasked to save a princess (such a coincidence!) from a demon lord named Dirth, you’ll be traipsing and jaunting all over the place to reclaim eight powerful medallions and restore peace throughout the land. Hop aboard this awesome action RPG equipped with a nifty save function for only 800 Wii Points.

Finally – the cherry on top of a deliciously retro chocolate sundae – we come to Super Metroid, Samus Aran’s critically-acclaimed adventure on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Equipped with the legendary suit of Armor that’s done more than its fair share of galaxy-saving, help Samus defeat the Space Pirates and finally Mother Brain herself in an climactic battle that has you working with the most unlikeliest of allies.

New graphics, new weapons, massive exploration values – it’s all here, and Nintendo’s only charging you 800 Wii points for the ride of a lifetime with Samus herself.

Three very good releases to get our blood pumping and our reflexes sharpened in preparation for Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Note that the titles themselves will be available for purchase 9 AM sharp, so wake up early if you want to get the retro joy flowing at the start of the day. Updates as we get them!
