More dots: 8-bit characters get their own toys

Dots on a stand make for cute collectibles. For those folks who are feeling nostalgic and miss the pixelated versions of your favorite Nintendo characters, Tomy Toys is coming out with a toy that doubles as a cute collectors’ item for your 8-bit loving hearts.

Called the “Dots Collection Nintendo Version,” the models are literally pixels. Each model has its own stand, and you build the model by inserting the appropriate pixel block onto the stand.

It’s an interesting way to preserve the 8-bit goodness of old-school Mario and Link. Of course, owners can probably tweak the items to suit their own needs by moving pixels around, and you can probably make a Link-Mario hybrid by buying different models.

From what we can understand from our source, there are six models in total. The models refer to three of Nintendo’s gaming legends from the NES: Super Mario Brothers 1, The Legend of Zelda and Donkey Kong. Each model costs Â¥483 (around US$4), and will be coming out in December, just in time for Christmas.
