Moves You’ll Need for Table Tennis on Xbox 360

Rockstar's Table TennisIf you’re going to play Table Tennis on the Xbox 360, you should know some of the maneuvers used in the actual game to be able to score points in the videogame. Or you might score points too with other people who’d find your knowledge of the game amusing.

First off, you should choose the way in which you’ll be holding your paddle: you can use either the penholder or the “shake hands” technique. The “shake hands” method is the most popular grip used as it gives balance to backhand and forehand. The penholder is most commonly used by Asian players as the position of the hand is good for serving and for forehand.

Common shots like the top spin, drop shot, back spin, side spin, down-the-line, cross-court, lob, block shot and the smash when mastered earn the most points for players.

The smash, also known as “kill shot,” is the best attack shot in table tennis because the ball is returned to the opponent’s court really fast and is elevated. The drop shot or soft shot on the other hand, requires the ball to be returned to the other court very close to the net. The lob is the best defense against the smash. It returns the ball high which gives the player enough time to get back into position.

The basic attack and defensive moves – the top spin and back spin shots, respectively – have the ball spinning in the same direction that the ball is traveling. This movement of the ball will cause it to pop up easily or hit the net if returned. The side spin shot will also have the ball spinning in its vertical axis causing it to move either to the left or right once it hits the table.

The crosscourt shot is made by returning the ball diagonally from one corner of the table to the other, making it harder for the opponent to return the shot. The down-the-line shot requires one to return the ball near the edge of the court. This is also considered the best shot to counter the opponent’s crosscourt shot.

The block shot is probably a player’s best defense to counter a drive made by the opponent. This would require holding the paddle still in the ball’s path and shifting the paddle to the other direction to return the fast shot.

These shots mentioned could be applied to Table Tennis when you play it on the Xbox 360 and may (or may not) help you win. But knowing them is a start.
