MS and IntelÂ’s Cover-to-Cover Laptop Innovations

Has anyone else noticed that laptops outside a home or office environment are convenient only when theyÂ’re closed?  The moment you need to use your laptop it suddenly becomes quite cumbersome. Once you flip the cover open, it demands enough elbow room to set the monitor at comfortable angle. Both Microsoft and Intel did notice that and are coming up with simple yet innovative solutions. First letÂ’s take a look at IntelÂ’s. The new design features a screen that can be pulled out all the way in front of the key board.  This new technological twist specifically addresses the need to view movies on the laptop in cramped spaces such as airplanes. This very flexible monitor may appear some time this year in models in the $1,100 price range. MS SideShow is more businessminded than pleasure. Microsoft’s proposed solution is for manufacturers to place a small screens on the outer cover of the laptop for reading incoming email messages without opening the case.  MS SideShow will be supported by the upcoming Windows Vista.
