NCsoft pursues illegal game servers, Greek internet cafe now facing trial

Gamers should be aware that playing MMORPGs on private unofficial servers is illegal, especially now that NCsoft is cracking down on perpetrators.

Just recently, the prominent publisher behind massive hits such as Guild Wars and Lineage 2 announced through press wire that it will up the ante in hunting illegal servers across Eastern Europe.

Defined by NCsoft as unauthorised servers that request players to download illegally modified and potentially harmful game data which change the intended experience, unofficial online servers of Lineage 2 will face lawsuits.

Servers in Greece and Russia were first to fall, as they breached international copyright laws. Users availing of these illegal services can also be charged.

In particular, NCsoft pointed out that it already obtained a court order against the Greece-based Internet cafe chain “e-Global” after the discovery of illegal servers and pirated copies of Lineage 2. The fight has been taken to Greek courts, where NCsoft protects the experience of its consumers and revenue that illegal servers steal from the company.
