New CFW preview: Puzzle Bobble Custom Firmware

Dark AleX began everything with his Open Edition (OE) firmwares. becus25 followed suit with custom firmwares dubbed as Increasing Edition (IE). This time, another coder known around the QJ.NET PSP Development Forums as FreePlay has come up with the Puzzle Bobble Custom Firmware.

Just like the name implies, this is very much entwined with the video game title Puzzle Bobble (that’s Bust-a-Move). FreePlay mentioned that the idea behind this was inspired by DAX’s original proof of concept. The features that come with Puzzle Bobble Custom Firmware include:

  • Puzzle Bobble Pocket, right on flash0. Built in. No need for a UMD or memory stick!
  • Sleek, sexy PSP XMB interface!
  • Whopping 64KB of free flash0 space!
  • Recovery booter – load your favorite recovery app to get back to a useful firmware!
  • Still runs homebrew (in kxploit format) and 1.50-compatible UMDs! Wowie zowie!

Currently, the project is still a WIP and FreePlay added that the firmware will be released in the near future as an installer that rips files from ISO dump and firmware dump. Check out the video below for a small preview.
