Nintendo Australia enjoying boost in profits - Image 1Nintendo’s subsidiary in Australia has another reason to party aside from the fact that several new Wii and DS titles just hit The Land Down Under.

According to the latest financial reports, the total number of Wii units sold in Australia have reached almost 80,000, helping triple net profits to AU$ 6.4 million (US$ 5.26 million).

Prior to Wii’s launch, Nintendo Australia’s net was in the red, losing AU$ 2.3 million during the 12 months that ended March 31, 2005. Net profits this fiscal year improved by AU$ 2.1 million, not to mention the glittering AU$ 138.9 million sales revenue for hardware and software combined.

Despite these numbers however, Nintendo Australia also experienced some major expenses for this fiscal year. The cost of business went up from AU$ 56.5 million in 2006 to AU$ 107.8 million. Likewise, a lot of money was put into marketing efforts. Total expenses in that division were up 68.2% year-on-year to AU$ 10.6 million while selling costs jumped 169% to AU$ 9.2 million.
