Nintendo comments on unconfirmed Chart Tracks figures
Last April 11, there was a rumor circulating about leaked and unconfirmed hardware sales figures from Chart Track (Chart-Track) in UK. According to the reports, the total number of Wii units sold was around 25,000. It was way leading its rivals as the PlayStation 3 (PS3) came up with 17,000 units and only 11,000 for the Xbox 360.
Until now, the independent sales monitoring company is yet to comment on these figures but Nintendo just jumped the gun and gave its thoughts about these numbers despite the lack of confirmation. One representative from the company remarked,
Last week was Wii’s third biggest sales week since launch. Everything we are shipping, we are selling. Sales in previous weeks weren’t as strong as 25k. Easter was the catalyst for the spike in sales. It’s a traditional gifting week and that was definitely a contributing factor, along with the fact that there was more stock than usual.
Prior to all these, it should be remembered that GameStop COO Dan DeMatteo accused Nintendo of intentionally causing the Wii supply shortage in the market, especially in UK. George Harrison quickly denied these allegations and said that they are doing their best to meet the overwhelming demand.
The representative somewhat echoed Harrison as he continued, “More units are shipped some weeks than others. We are making regular shipments, and we are consistent.”
