Nintendo debunks Metroid Prime Trilogy for Wii rumor

Samus - Image 1If you were stoked by the rumor that the first two Metroid titles will be repackaged with Metroid Prime 3 for the Nintendo Wii, then we’re sorry to burst your  bubble. Nintendo has just tagged the speculation as “purely rumour and speculation.” More details after the jump.

Metroid Prime's Samus - Image 1Nintendo has just confirmed via CVG that the item about a Metroid Prime Trilogy coming to the Wii is just “purely rumour and speculation.” We reported on this Metroid rumor just recently – a tipster claimed to have supposedly seen a retailer with a new Wii game titled Metroid Prime Trilogy – and while the prospect was very enticing, Nintendo came forward and denied it.

The credibility of the rumor is shaky at best, but it was enough to jump start online discussions that a Metroid Prime 3 along with Metroid 1 and 2 would be repackaged while the Gamecube versions would be configured for the Wii. Adding fuel to the rumor mill is the departure of three devs from Metroid Prime developer Retro Studios, who were supposedly escorted out of the company’s building.

Updates as QJ.Net gets them.
