Nintendo: first Super Mario Galaxy review faked

Super Mario Galaxy - Image 1Close, but definitely no cigar: Belgian gaming magazine “Gunk” published what could have been the first Super Mario Galaxy exclusive review, only to be shot down by a Nintendo spokesperson, saying that “no one in the world will have access to final game code until October 10 at the earliest.”

The supposed exclusive review had Super Mario Galaxy garner a high score of 92 percent (and the game does seem to deserve that rating, or higher).

The “review” only spanned one page, and the game coverage wasn’t mentioned in the magazine’s cover. Strange indeed, considering that Super Mario Galaxy is one of the most anticipated game releases for the Wii. CVG speculates – and we do think this is a possibility – that what the magazine was “reviewing” was actually only the short E3 demo, and not the full game as people thought.

“It is 100 percent not a review,” said the spokesperson from Nintendo. So far, the closest things we can get for a Super Mario Galaxy review on printed publication are of character art and screenshots. Well, it was a nice try anyway.
