Nintendo named ‘World’s Best Company’ for 2009
Despite recent setbacks profits-wise, Nintendo‘s success in this console generation is a hard thing to argue against. In recognition of the DS and Wii’s dominance in their respective markets, BusinessWeek and management consulting firm A.T. Despite recent setbacks profits-wise, Nintendo‘s success in this console generation is a hard thing to argue against. In recognition of the DS and Wii’s dominance in their respective markets, BusinessWeek and management consulting firm A.T. Kearney recently gave Nintendo the top spot in their World’s Best Companies 2009 list.
BusinessWeek cited the company’s “continued emphasis on innovation” as a key ingredient in its success:
Japanese electronics maker Nintendo (7974.T) claims the No. 1 spot this year. Its sales have risen 36% annually over the past five years, while its value growth averaged 38%. Despite the hard times of the past year, Nintendo’s continued emphasis on innovation has helped the company develop must-haves such as the DS handheld game machine and the Wii console, which outsold rival offerings from Sony (SNE) and Microsoft (MSFT).
Nintendo is followed by Google and Apple at second and third place, respectively. Neither Sony nor Microsoft made it into the 40-company list.
