Nintendo Revolution Renamed – Nintendo Wii
Well, it’s official! Today Nintendo announced the re-branding of their next-generation console that was codenamed “Revolution!” – and the new name isn’t anything I would’ve come up with. Nintendo Wii (pronounced “We,” not “Why”) will be the next system in a 20 year history of gaming entertainment from one of the pioneers of the industry. Here is what Nintendo had to say about their interesting new moniker:
Introducing … Wii.
As in “we.”
While the code-name “Revolution” expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer.
Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else.
Wii will put people more in touch with their games … and each other. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean?
Wii sounds like “we,” which emphasizes this console is for everyone.
Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.
Wii has a distinctive “ii” spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play.
And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of video games that sets it apart from the crowd.
So that’s Wii. But now Nintendo needs you.
Because, it’s really not about you or me.
It’s about Wii.
And together, Wii will change everything.
Interesting, to say the least. The Nintendo scene is sure to be heating up as we head into the final days before E3 kicks off, and “wii” will be on top of it all as news continues to trickle out from Nintendo, so be sure to keep your eyes on our QJ.NET Nintendo Revolution Blog – which will obviously need a bit of a redesign and a new name itself!!
Let us know your thoughts on the new name in the comments! Does the new name make you want to be a part of the collective “Wii,” or does it leave you asking, “Why?”
[Since this an important development for the entire gaming industry, it has been posted on all QJ Console blogs to ensure that everyone gets a chance to read about this breaking news. Please try to be understanding if this breaks from the usual topic of your favorite blogs.]
