By interfacing with a DS via infrared, you can transfer a Pokemon over to the PokeWalker, which looks like a flattened Pokeball with a small screen. Think Tamagotchi and you’re on the right track. As you walk around carrying the device, the Pokemon you loaded onto it will gain experience and affection for you.

The PokeWalker will also convert your steps into “watts” which can then be used to catch wild Pokemon and search for tools.

Nintendo has yet to announce whether every copy of Heart Gold and Soul Silver will be bundled with the PokeWalker or if it will only be available as part of a separate bundle. If it’s the former, expect the price point for these two games to be a bit higher than other Pokemon games for the DS.
