IGN reports that Nielsen/NetRatings has revealed their market research on the various websites of the three next-gen consoles. They analyzed the net traffic coming in on Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft‘s first-party console sites and ranked them by comparing their traffic numbers from last year (Feb 2006). Here’s an image of the chart – numbers are in thousands:

On top of the list, Nintendo.com is leading everyone with a whopping 91% growth, from last year’s 856,000 to this year’s 1.6-million. Xbox also got an increase in their traffic by 47%, while the PlayStation site was the only one which decreased with a minimal 8%. Take note that these are only of the first-party sites, and does not account for other independent sites that might be of or relating to these three big guns.

An interesting aside: IGN reports that the analysis includes some demographic info which basically pegs the majority of console owners 1) are married with children, 2) prefer to purchase online games via Best Buy, and 3) love to go to theme parks. Right-o.
