No more rocking out to Mario and Zelda on Guitar Hero: World Tour
Activision Blizzard and Neversoft decided to yank custom tracks based on Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda from Guitar Hero: World Tour‘s (Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, and Wii) music-sharing service. The Nintendo favorites previously enjoyed status as some of the most popular songs available.
Do not make Shigeru Miyamoto angry… you wouldn’t like Shigeru Miyamoto when he’s angry.
Probably wise words and a sentiment that was apparently shared by Activision Blizzard and Neversoft who collectively decided to yank custom tracks based on Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda from Guitar Hero: World Tour‘s (Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, and Wii) music-sharing service. The Nintendo favorites previously enjoyed status as some of the most popular songs available.
Copyright Infringement is not something to take lightly, after all, especially given the obscene amounts of money the GH franchise is netting them. They’re undoubtedly starting to look quite ripe and ready for the suing right about now. Though Neversoft nor Activision Blizzard didn’t give any official reason for taking out the Ninty-inspired tracks, it could be likely they were just trying to play it safe.
I can’t say I’m particularly sad about the loss of the tunes given my predisposition to the sanctity of rock but I have to cry foul all the same since so many other copyrighted game tracks are still in there. Case in point: Cerulean City from Pokemon, which is/was enjoying the top spot in Guitar Hero: World Tour’s top 50 list (/facepalm)
