Interestingly enough, the Wii is the only platform to fall behind expectations. The Xbox 360 and PS3, however, are pretty much in line with market expectations, although the Microsoft console sold twice as much as its Sony rival.

US Hardware in December 2008 (Expected sales in parentheses)

  • Nintendo DS: 3,040,000 (2,670,000)
  • Wii: 2,150,000 (3,030,000)

  • PSP: 1,020,000 (935,000)
  • PS3: 726,000 (757,000)

As for the software sales, five of the top ten sellers are for the Wii, four come from the Xbox 360, while the PS3 only registered one title on that char. Also interesting to note that all the non-Nintendo platform titles on that chart are all first-person shooters.
