Other things you need to know about Super Mario Galaxy

Super Mario Galaxy - Image 1Ah, Super Mario Galaxy. We’ve seen the videos, checked out various planets, perused through various screenshots… but there’s still so much we haven’t heard about. For instance, who are the other playable characters aside from Mario?

A recent Nintendo retailer conference provided the following scoop about Mario’s latest galactic exploit.

Nintendo is a bit secretive about the issue of other playable characters in the game. Will any of the veteran characters like Luigi, Princesses Daisy, Toad, or Yoshi be making an appearance in this title? Will they be playable or will they just serve as cameos? We’ll just have to find out when the game comes out.

Before any of us lose our heads trying to guess that one out, let’s just focus on other – confirmed – facts. Super Mario Galaxy having a 16:9 screen option and run it on 60fps, for example. That should make Mario fans with widescreen monitors happy.

Also, there are going to be mini-games, at least one, which is included in the “Trial Galaxy”. Gamefront wasn’t able to clarify what kind of mini-game it was, so we’ll just have to check for later updates to find out. Since it’s called the “Trial Galaxy”, it sounds as if we’re going to have a slew of fun mini-games to hone our galaxy-hopping skills in.

As for online connectivity, Nintendo hasn’t decided whether or not to give Mario Galaxy a touch of Wi-Fi Connection. However, they’re still thinking about it, so don’t lose hope about being able to roam galaxies with other players online.

What could be the most intriguing detail that Nintendo mentioned is that there will be difficult levels in the game, but it is in these difficult stages that “perfect control” is needed to go through the levels. This is definitely good news: it sounds like Super Mario Galaxy will have the flawless control that everyone is craving for in a game.

These may be small tidbits, but juicy ones nonetheless. Do watch this space for more updates!
