Palm Celebrates the 10-Year Anniversary of the Pilot

Palm PilotIt’s been a full decade since Palm first unleashed its Pilot organizer on an unsuspecting world.  In the years since then, despite the gains made by competitors (notably those running Microsoft’s competing OS), the Pilot and its successors have been extremely successful.  They’ve managed to make their way into the hearts (and pockets) of millions worldwide, and by doing so they’ve cemented Palm’s place in history as one of the most successful companies of its sort – if not the most successful one to date.

Palm has introduced many new products and OS versions since then, but each and every single one has had the same basic selling points – unprecedented ease of use, due to the potent combination of a  calendar, to-do lists, contact lists and notes that each and every OS version features; and easy synchronization with a computer.  The company attributes its phenomenal success to the fact that regardless of whatever new products and innovations they’ve introduced, they’ve stayed true to their guiding vision – the future of personal computing is mobile computing – and they intend to stick to their winning formula no matter what.

It’s been quite a ride for the company and its series of organizers thus far, and having seen most of it firsthand – some of us are diehard Palm fans ourselves, as a matter of fact – we’re rooting for the company to continue its string of successes.   Here’s hoping that the company will weather any storm it may encounter.
