Flying Lab Software is definitely upping the ante of Pirates of the Burning Sea‘s Player versus Player (PvP) mode come patch 1.3. Aside from introducing Duel and Skirmish modes to the sea-faring MMORPG, it has been revealed that plenty of tweaks will hit the deck.

Port defense is among the primary issues discussed in the most recent developer blog update. According to the blog post, port defense in Pirates of the Burning Sea is supposed to be difficult in order to avoid stasis and promote active conflict, so balance changes will be implemented.

When patch 1.3 goes online, ships will spawn closer to their destination ports so nations short on citizens to manipulate unrest can receive help much faster. Some ports will still be easier to attack or defend, but this change is expected to address the issue of lacking NPCs at ports.

The latest Pirates of the Burning Sea devlog goes on about other quirks in the works that may improve PvP, such as improved Mark of Victory turn ins and PvP loot drops. However, the said changes will take a lot of work, but that sure leaves us with good PvP incentives to expect beyond patches 1.2 and 1.3.
