Ever notice all those anime and manga where people do “training” for everything they do? There’s battle training (always a must when you’ve gotta defend the Earth or something), date training (ranks right up there with battle training), cooking training, card training (guess what show we’re talking about)… The list goes on and on. And then there’s the veritable flood of training games for the DS: Common Sense DS Adult Training. Brain Training. Cooking Navigator.English Trainingand all those other language training games.

And then there’s this: Konami‘s Stock Trader Training Kabutore!. When we hear Konami we usually think “blood and guts and a cardboard box,” and so we weren’t surprised to hear that this is their first ever stock trading simulation. For help, they turned to Monex Inc, a securities company.

The game’s main feature is a screening function that lets you easily search for stock issues using a touch pen. You just draw a line graph in the shape of an envisaged stock price chart and the software automatically searches for a stock issue for which the price movements fit that image. This makes it easy for those of us new to or with little experience in stock trading.

The software also includes stock price data for issues on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange and TSE Mothers, along with actual data from Kaisha Shikihou, the quarterly corporate report (Toyo Keizai Inc.) and stock-related news reports (DeamVisor.com), allowing players to conduct actual investment activity simulations.

It all fits, y’know? First they teach you to use your brain, then they teach you how to keep yourself alive and how to function in an adult environment. Finally, they give you job skills. Whoo. Imagine, pretty soon we may be seeing the emergence of a whole new demographic group: people raised solely using DS games. Or maybe a reality show. Hey, it could happen. We’d watch it.

Stock Trading Trainer Kabutore! will be showcased at this year’s Tokyo Game Show and is set to be released on December 14.
