Wii users rejoice because you have just scored another company to develop games for your beloved console! Oh yes indeed, the Liverpool-based Playbox Games has just announced that they are now one of the official companies to develop games for the Wii.

Playbox Games is currently composed of six members, partly because they used to specialize in outsourcing and “work for hire” duties. But though the team is not huge in numbers, their efforts in developing games must have been huge enough for Nintendo to notice them because they’re now an official developer for the Wii.

The company’s previous works include Football Manager Pub Quiz and aspects of Buzz: The Music Quiz, which was released earlier for the PS2. The more exciting part about this current development is that after being signed by Nintendo as an official developer, Playbox Games also has a brewing deal with giant videogame Japanese company Capcom.

Here’s what the managing director for Playbox Games had to say about these developments:

Because Wii is such a new product, Nintendo is being fairly restrictive about the number of companies it’s allowing to work on game development so getting approval is fantastic for us. After one meeting in Japan, Capcom travelled to Liverpool to see us and we’re both keen to see what we can create together.

Well, there you have it, fellas. We’ll be looking forward to great releases from Playbox Games in the following months, so make sure you check back with us for further updates.
