Well looks like Sony finally caved in and introduced a price drop. Don’t get all excited though, the price drop is only for the discontinued 40 GB model.
A leaked Blockbusters’ memo shows that Sony is permanently dropping its price tag down US$ 40 to US$ 360, effective on Sunday.
The price drop isn’t really surprising, as they’d want to clear it from the shelves so their newer models can have the space for the holidays. Still, if you’re not the type who needs that much space on the hard drive, it’s a pretty good deal.
According to the memo, trade-ins of the 40 GB model will sell for US$ 360 as well. Sony’s also offering a 40 GB PS3 bundled up with an HDMI cable, Spider-Man the movie and the Transformers game for US$ 400.
UPDATE: Despite reports from Blockbuster employees, SCEA says that the price cut wasn’t mandated by them. Seems Blockbuster decided it on their own. So if you want yourself a cheap 40 GB PS3, grab one from their stores next week.
