Looking forward to some electric Pikachu action in Pokemon Black & White? Yeah, that’s not gonna happen. Not until you finish the main game, anyway.

 

GameFreak’s Junichi Masuda revealed that players won’t encounter any of the established favorites in Black & White until they’ve cleared the game. Masuda explains that this was done to instill a sense of discovery in those playing the game, similar to what the original Pokemon games evoked.

 

Presumably, you’ll be able to capture or trade older Pokemon upon completion.
