Possible TIFF exploit found on PS3 U.S. FW 1.93

User TicHack from PS3-Hacks Forums just discovered a possible TIFF exploit for the PlayStation 3 running on U.S. Firmware 1.93. According to the user, he copied some of the TIFF images in the console’s HDD after they appeared on the memory card.

As you all know, the PS3 doesn’t deal with these things so TicHack received the “Corrupted Data” method. What he did next was took the HDD off and viewed the TIFF image on the Photo Menu. After taking away the hard drive, the PlayStation 3 unit in question continued running on FW 1.93. TicHack checked some of the features on the XMB and they are working all fine.

We’re not saying that this is already a full-blown exploit and TicHack said it best when he mentioned that this particular method could only serve as the gateway to the exploit. A video has also been posted as proof of concept.

  • Download and place TIFF file on a USB/flash drive.
  • View the TIFF on the PS3 and copy it to HDD, it should show up as CORRUPTED DATA.
  • Remove the PS3’s HDD at this point and view the TIFF image again.
  • You should now be able to go to Game Data Utility – Save Data Utility and I can use the TRIANGLE (e.g Eject Disc,Copy etc) also plug in External Devices and so ON.

QJ.NET would like to thank Pirate for the heads up!
