Kevin Isildur Maginn, Lead Designer of Flying Lab Software‘s Pirates of the Burning Sea, talked about the game’s post-launch content in a recent interview. Maginn responded to various questions about the game regarding avatar combat, post-launch plans for the game, user content, and ship-to-ship battle tactics.

For starters, Maginn admitted that Flying Lab Software is still working on improving avatar combat in the game. According to Maginn, avatar combat hasn’t had as much “baking time” as ship combat, so Flying Lab Software will be working on rectifying that by tweaking it until players are satisfied.

Regarding post-launch plans, Maginn stated that he’d like to focus on three specific areas post-launch: more difficult PvE content that’s a step above the player’s comfort zones, a PvP events system that allows players to schedule and organize their own major battles, and a player governance system that includes port-grabbing politics chock-full of backstabbing and betrayal. He went on to say that the Flying Lab Software team will expand the current user content in the game into new areas, though he offered no concrete details.

Kevin Maginn also talked about his favorite ship-to-ship tactics. In fact, his parting suggestion to players is this: Instead of merely increasing cannon damage, add accuracy and range-increasing gear to faster ships and watch them tear larger ships apart.

Pirates of the Burning Sea is set for commercial release on January 22, 2008, and will be part of Sony Online Entertainment’s (SOE’s) Station Pass.
