The latest patch notes of version 1.1 to come forward from the developers themselves list new ship combat changes and mostly focused on the gun mechanics. Details and more at the full story.

According to the latest update from Flying Lab Software, Pirates of the Burning Sea‘s patch version 1.1 has just hit the developers’ testbed servers. If all goes well, Pirates of the Burning Sea is likely go live over the servers next week. But before we do reach that faithful day, Flying Labs listed down new changes with the gun and ship combat mechanics.

“Recently, itÂ’s become apparent that thereÂ’s a problem in the cannon accuracy settings. The numbers are off by small amounts in several areas,” said Taelorn, who further explained that this glitch could allow smaller ships to sink vessels of considerable tonnage. They’ve reviewed what needed to be changed, and after a long deliberation over ship combat balancing, they’ve come up with the following:

  • Added a small amount (1-4) of target tracking to the smaller guns. (Target tracking reduces the penalties caused by the relative motion of you and your target.)
  • Added +2 accuracy to all guns when at maximum range.
  • Added a small amount (1-2) of mid range accuracy to mid-heavy guns.
  • Reduced small/medium ship defense by 4.
  • Added +2 damage resistance to large, huge and colossal ships.
  • Made small adjustments to target tracking, mainly on the mid to upper range ships. Most noticable [sic] on the Raa.
  • Slightly reduced the relative motion accuracy penalty.
  • Slightly extended out the range at which we start applying relative motion penalties.
  • Decreased the defense of the MC La Belle. It was receiving its defense bonus plus the defense bonus of the regular La Belle. But even with this correction, itÂ’s still the highest-defense ship in the game.
  • Reduced the DR of some ships (such as the Cruizer) that were set too high due to having their size reduced recently
  • Increased the defense for third rate and above line ships (they are still very easy to hit)
  • Slightly increased the defense for some mid-range and high-end ships.

Added accuracy, however, meant that guns will be able hit much more often, which puts owners of small and medium ships at a serious disadvantage. Their hulls will not be able to take a direct broadside up close, and with added gun tracking, they could be half as deadly at longer ranges.

The changes were tuned to anticipate this flaw, and it was made so that larger ships were easier to hit (though well armored) and smaller ships much harder to strike often.
