“PR for Games” Conference worth watching?

PR people gatheringThe guys who put the “Spin” on your favourite games have their own events too. The 2006 PR for Games Conference will feature “practical” gaming and gaming business information from industry veterans, and for the first time feature case studies from successful PR campaigns.

The conference is set to take place this October 12 at Fairmont, San Francisco and will include panels, keynotes, and case studies of Vivendi SA is a video game developer; formerly known as Vivendi Universal”>Vivendi Games’ F.E.A.R. Ubisoft‘s AssassinÂ’s Creed.

The conference serves as an opportunity for games publicists to learn from interactive entertainment industry veterans and a network of journalists and peers. It also serves as a good starting point for those who are looking to get into the business of PR for games.

This may not have an immediate impact on us gamers, as we’d rather get game details and console release dates, but events like this are worth observing as they often dictate the manner in which we’ll get our game/console info. Liking the whole “Wii is for fun” angle? Some PR guy thought of that. You happen to like the preview info that a developer/publisher released to the public? A PR guy probably let that leak happen to create some hype. Bored or annoyed with a particular console commercial on TV? Blame a PR guy for that too.

Anyway, if you consider yourself a very “public” person and you’re into gaming, and you have dreams of getting into the industry but the coding/design part of it all is alien to you, the conference might just give you ideas of how to get into the PR side of the industry. Sorry to tell you though that  there’s a fee for this conference as it is assumed that business-type people will be going. If your wallet is tight, we suggest you save up and attend the one they’ll have next year.
