PS3 OS reduces its memory footprint

Sony PS3 - Image 1The more spec-conscious members of the Sony PlayStation 3 fan base have been talking about why the base memory for the Sony PlayStation 3 OS was so large when in fact it barely uses half of it.

The theory of some sites is that the hardware people are allocating this much memory for future applications that Sony may come up with. The nature of those applications is still unknown.

The increments of the 84MB memory are the 32MB that it takes from the graphics memory of the console and 52MB taken up from the main memory. This may flabbergast some people who know for a fact that 64MB was the original figure taken from the main memory. That’s partly true, but after the holidays, 8MB was given up to developers to reduce it to 56MB, then 4MB more was given back, setting the count to 52MB.

At the end of the day, what does this do for the actual gaming experience? We’re stumped. See the read URL and tell us what you think.
