PS3 priced at US$ 863 in Greece

It is no secret that Sony encountered a lot of problems concerning the PS3 way before it was released. But after most of the issues have been dealt with, the console has been performing well in terms of hardware and software sales.

However, this little bit could slow down the PS3 yet again. Accordingly, retailers in Greece raised the recommended retail price of the 60GB console package to EUR 659 (US$ 863). It is curious as well that even the official Sony Center there listed it for the same price.

It would be remembered that Ireland will be selling theirs for EUR 629.99 (US$ 827.33). SCEE explained back then that “Ireland is traditionally more expensive than other territories. The VAT rate there is 21 per cent, whereas it can be as low as 16 per cent in other EU countries.”

If we are to follow that same argument, maybe VAT rates also got in the way this time. Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe is yet to comment about this development.
