PS3 Will Sell At Least 5M Without Games

ReevesDespite the delay of launch titles, and price for the PlayStation 3, Sony is confident that they will still see a strong sales figure for their next-gen console.

According to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO David Reeves, even without the titles that were supposed to come out together with the PS3, the console will still be bought by a lot of people. this is because he believes that with the playstation brand, sony has already built an established name in the video game world. as he put it, “we have built up a certain brand equity over time since the launch of playstation in 1995 and ps2 in 2000 that the first five million are going to buy it, whatever it is, even [if] it didn’t have games.”

He might have a point regarding the sales figure, but i’m not sure about the “didn’t have games” part, though. After all, gamers buy a console primarily to play games in it. Thankfully, we don’t have to worry about not getting games for the PS3. Would you buy a PS3 even if it didn’t have games?
