PSPLINK for PSP Development Released

TyRaNiD over at ps2dev.org has released a new version of PSPLINK. It’s basically a tool which can help homebrew developers immensely. Its purpose it to provide a shell on your PC via SIO, WIFI or USB. If you’re wondering what exactly this means, then it most probably isn’t for you. Plus, it can access your PSP’s internals in realtime. You can even dump the memory contents, use it for debugging and print messages on PC, or even take screenshots !

To give you a better understanding, let me explain to all the homebrew developers out there.

Whats the drill while making homebrew ?

• Write Code.
• Compile it and rectify any errors or warnings.
• Connect PSP to PC and Transfer files.
• After disconnecting PSP, navigating to homebrew and executing it.
• Waiting for some time while homebrew is booted.
• Cursing yourself when there’s a stupid bug.
• And back to step 1.

Now it might not sound like much, but the Connecting -> Transferring -> Disconnecting -> Executing part really wastes a lot of time. I’ve made homebrew, so I know pretty much how frustrating it is.

And there’s where this great application comes in. Rather than doing that same old boring drill after you compile something, all you have to do is transfer your updated build over one of the 3 methods supported (Serial Port, WIFI, USB). Might not sound much, but in the longer run, you can save hours which can be spent writing better homebrew.

But wait ! That’s just the first use of it. For all those who have been saying that developing for the PSP is difficult because you cant debug applications at runtime, well, you can use this great application to debug your applications. Plus, add the ability to take screenshots and direct messages to your PC, and this application becomes one of those must-have applications for PSP Development.
