Pwnage: Halo 2 finally dethroned, GoW is king!

Last week, when Major Nelson released the list of top Xbox Live games, there was a bit of contestation. While GoW had topped the list for the 360 games, Halo 2 still remained above and beyond when you combined the titles on Xbox and Xbox 360. But not anymore. The reigning king of XBL has finally been uncrowned by a newcomer.

In less than two weeks since it was first released in the U.S., Gears of War has finally reached the top spot in the Xbox Live chart. While Call of Duty 2 and Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter had some heavy online activity when they were released, none of them were strong enough to beat the champ in Microsoft‘s online service. With GoW‘s release in Europe last Friday, it finally earned enough support to bump Halo 2 out.

As for how long the Serans are taking the throne, who knows? CoD 3 might be a worthy adversary and Halo 3 is looming in the distant horizon. For what it’s worth, its the gamers who dictate the charts. The developers might be trying to top each other… But ultimately, it’s you guys who determine what hot, and what’s not.
