Quick WoW question: can you trade loot cards for gold?

World of Warcraft Trading Card Game - Image 1For those who play the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game (TCG), epic cards that come with normal sets are very valuable, especially if they are loot cards. Magharim from the WoW forums inquired whether he can trade the loot card codes for gold.

Loot cards come with a code that players can convert into in-game items. The codes can be used only once and thus you have to be use which character on which realm you want to use it on. Magharim explained that the the code is basically an in-game item (he just wants to sell the code, not the card itself) and shouldn’t be included in the “trading real life items or money for gold” rule. Blizzard poster from the Customer Service Forum, Vrakthris answered that it is against the rules.

Why? Because the code itself is a out of game item. So that would make it illegal to trade it for gold. The blue poster also explained that players can’t convert the code into the item then sell it since once players convert the code, the resulting items are soulbound. However, players have the option of selling the card to a hobby store or put it up for auction because then they won’t be trading an in-game item for real money.
