Ready to Gobble up Some Microsoft “Consumables”?

Xbox LiveReady to gobble up some Microsoft “consumables”?

Microsoft is dead-set on launching its latest ploy tagged as “Consumables”. This was revealed by Xbox Live Marketplace business manager Rohan Oommen at Gamefest 2006. So what in the world could this be?

Consumables are said to be in-game assets that can dry up but re-purchased. Microsoft intends to incorporate this technology into its next Xbox 360 SDK update. So for example you purchased a consumable armor, there is a chance that it could wear down during crucial battles or something of that sort.

Aside from that, MS is also planning to  to integrate Marketplace more closely into games themselves, so buyers could easily load up with the goodies by buying from NPC vendors. Goods bought during play will be stored in a ‘shopping basket’, with a visit to the Xbox Live Marketplace required to hand over your cash and complete the transaction. Kinda like how you buy food via drive thru services. But you can always “accidentally” kill the NPC vendor. So far, there has been no specifics about this plan.
