Realtime Worlds planning Grand Theft Auto Online?

Realtime Worlds - Image 1It may not have registered in your radar when Realtime Worlds reacquired the license for the cops-and-robbers MMORPG All Points Bulletin weeks back. But rumor has it that APB will be pitched to Rockstar Games as Grand Theft Auto Online. More details after the jump.

It wasn’t that splashy when Realtime Worlds announced in April that they have regained the global distribution rights for the massively multiplayer online game All Points Bulletin. I mean, it’s not like it’s as popular as Grand Theft Auto 4 (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360) – or is it?

There’s a rumor going around that Realtime Worlds reacquired the cops-and-robbers MMO All Points Bulletin from publisher Webzen to recalibrate it and sell it to Rockstar Games as Grand Theft Auto Online.

Realtime Worlds didn’t deny or confirm the rumor, saying that the reacquisition “gives themselves some options.” But these choices are interesting. Read the statement from a Realtime Worlds spokesperson about these possible options:

One of which [options] is to launch it [All Points Bulletin] and support it themselves, and the other one is to look for another partner; someone else who may well be interested and have the infrastructure.

Someone else who has the infrastructure to support a game with criminals and police? Certainly Rockstar Games fit the bill, not to mention Realtime Worlds was founded by devs who worked on the earlier Grand Theft Auto games. In any case however, this is still a rumor so don’t get your hopes up too much. More developments as QJ.NET gets them.
