Red Bull has been announced to be the first brand to build a presence in PlayStation Home.
They built their own tropical island, which features an aeroplane racing game, which is based on their real world Red Bull Air Race series.
Though Red Bull is no stranger to video games ads (remember the PS1‘s Wip3out series?) I’m still surprised to find it’s the first brand to make its name known in the virtual world. Says Red Bull UK‘s brand manager:
The game gave us the first opportunity to recreate in the gaming world what we try to do in the real world, which is to facilitate interaction, to give people stories, memories, experiences and a really good opportunity to interact with the brand. It’s an easy environment for brands to take that first step into gaming.
We’re likely to see more brands crop up once the service opens up its beta. I just hope I won’t see ads every time I turn my virtual head.
